Parent Rosters

Updated: 19th June 2010

Dear Parent / Guardian,

To those of you who have maintained your commitment to supporting the parent roster I would once again like to extend my thanks on behalf of all the swimmers in the club. Under Swim Ireland rules and regulations for Child Safety in Sport, the club is obliged to have a responsible adult on the bank at all times during training sessions. Our continued affiliation to Swim Ireland is dependent upon our complying with these rules.

A set of guidelines for parent duties are attached and will also posted on the pool notice-board to give you some details on the role of the poolside supervision.

Some important point to note: -

  • The rosters will be posted on the pool notice board and here at the club website www.teamtsc.net.
  • The rosters will also be posted or emailed to the parents of every swimmer. This will include additional information i.e. names and contact numbers of all parents in your child’s squad only. The additional information will enable you contact other parents to change dates/times if necessary and will not be posted on the notice board or club website.
  • If you cannot attend at your allotted time it is your responsibility to contact one of the parents listed to make alternative arrangements. Failure of a parent to attend for either roster will mean cancellation of the session.

The parent roster is there to protect our children, to safeguard their wellbeing and the wellbeing of everyone involved in their coaching.

Yours faithfully,
_______________

Secretary

PARENT SUPERVISION
As outlined by Swim Ireland

Every coach taking a session must be able to rely on the parent being present. Coaches and children can be in a vulnerable situation at times – e.g. early morning pool sessions. In the event of a parent not present, the session must be cancelled.
Swimmers are left at the pool by parents who expect the children to be safe. This can only occur when these safeguards are in place for everyone’s protection.

Duties of Parent Supervisor

  • Ensure attendance record for the session is kept. Coaches will take attendance of swimmers. The Duty parents will sign-in for the session that they are supervising. The sign-in sheet will be kept beside the whiteboard at the east side of the pool.
  • Take note of swimmers leaving and returning to pool.
  • Allow coaches freedom to get on with coaching – sometimes coaches need to feedback on one to one basis - this should be in open view.
  • Take note of any problems that occur – refer child related issues to the Club Children’s Officer/all other issues to the Committee – usually through the secretary.
  • In cases of emergency the parent can respond by requesting an additional adult either to supervise children or respond to the emergency
  • In the case of an emergency where the parent of a swimmer needs to be contacted, please phone the Club Secretary – number on the club website.
If you are unable to attend at your allocated time, it is your responsibility to contact someone else on your roster to take your place. We all have a moral obligation to ensure the safety & well-being of our children and coaches.
These measures are in place for the protection of all our children and their coaches

REMEMBER IF NO ADULT PRESENT THE SESSION MUST BE CANCELLED
